Orginally the company sold the products through a multi-level distribution sales force, however in 2000 Metabolife International announced expansion into the retail market nationwide and now sells Herbalife 356 and the rest of the product line almost exclusively on drug store and supermarket shelves. (60,000+ retail locations) They no longer sign up new "distributors" and any remaining members are now "consultants" for the company. Basically the multi-level sales force they originally signed up now has their products available everywhere. At the time of this writing, the company and management are under tax investigation according to PRNewswire and Metabolife source Jan Strode.
